Maxim back Doggies over Sonny Bill revolt

Maxim Home Loans, a Major Sponsor of the Bulldogs, have today publicly backed the club following the shock exit of Sonny Bill Williams.

In what has been a heavily featured case in this week's news, Williams stunned the NRL by walking out on the Bulldogs on the weekend and boarding a flight to France to pursue a career in Rugby Union with French club Toulon.

Following statements made by NRL CEO David Gallop and Bulldogs CEO Todd Greenberg condemning Williams' actions, Maxim CEO Spiro Markopoulos added: "I couldn't agree more with Todd Greenberg and the NRL on this matter.

"I say this not only on behalf of Maxim as a sponsor, but from a human aspect and as someone that loves the game. Sonny's actions cannot be condoned. There is a code of ethics and a way of doing things and here he has shown complete disregard for everything that makes Rugby League in this country great."

As a Major sponsor Maxim have been approached on numerous occasions since the news surrounding Williams broke on the effect it has on the partnership with the club.

Markopoulos swiftly put any immediate sponsorship unrest to bed by declaring: "Our partnership is with the Bulldogs and not individual players. The club historically has the uncanny knack of bouncing back from adversity and I'm sure that next season will be no different. We will see a well equipped Canterbury outfit come back from this.

"We're proud sponsors of the Bulldogs and the massive entity that they represent. With the greatest of respect to Sonny Bill Williams and his playing ability, the Bulldogs will live on long after he stops playing the game. It may be cliché but it doesn't ring truer than in this moment: No one man is bigger than the club."

He concluded: "We are 100% behind the Bulldogs on this and whole-heartedly support their campaign alongside the NRL in bringing his unacceptable actions to justice."
